We Are Hiring! Junior Graphic Designer/Administrator.

PhonoLab is a growing vinyl record manufacturing studio based in Mayfield West, NSW, and we’re looking for a Junior Graphic Designer / Administrator to join us on a casual/Part-Time basis. If you’re looking for an entry level graphic design role in the Newcastle region and want to work on real physical products, this role offers something a little different from a typical marketing or agency job. You’ll help create vinyl record covers and centre labels, assist with customer orders, and design social media content for a growing studio that specialises in short run/one-off vinyl record manufacturing.

What the Role Involves

The role combines production design and marketing work. Approximately 75% of the role focuses on order preparation and production artwork. This includes creating record covers and centre labels, transferring customer order information into templates, checking files before production, and communicating with customers or print suppliers when needed.

Approximately 25% of the role involves creative marketing work. This includes creating social media graphics, blog visuals, Instagram ads, and potentially short social video content.

 

Why Attention to Detail Matters

Much of this role involves transferring order information into production templates. Because these files are used to produce real physical records and packaging, accuracy is extremely important. We’re looking for someone who works carefully, notices small details, and takes pride in getting things right. Reliability and organisation are just as important as design ability.

Working in a Small Studio

PhonoLab is a small and growing studio, which means the role is varied and hands on. You’ll work in a small team alongside the owners and help keep studio workflows organised. The role suits someone who is comfortable using initiative, asking questions when unsure, and gradually becoming confident managing tasks independently.

 

Role Details

  • Location: Mayfield West, NSW
  • Hours: 2–3 days per week during business hours
  • Pay: $30–$40 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Employment: Casual initially, with opportunity for permanent part/full time
  • Start Date: April (flexible)
  • Own car and licence required for occasional supplier trips (mileage reimbursed)
