Blackout JA x Reality Chant – Play Hard
In September 2026 we completed a run of 50 records for Reality Chant Productions, pressing the limited edition 7" single Play Hard — a collaboration between UK-based Jamaican dancehall champion Blackout JA and Ōtautahi (Christchurch) production duo Reality Chant. Three mixes, one riddim, clear vinyl.

We cut 50 copies on clear 7" vinyl with full-colour centre labels. The labels feature a deep purple background with an illustrative overlay and white text highlighting the artists and producers involved. Truly bold and vibrant against the clear vinyl back drop.

About the Artists:
Blackout JA (Christopher Hendricks) is a formidable force across the global reggae, dancehall, and sound system scenes. Hailing from Bristol via Portland, Jamaica, he was raised around his father's "Universe" sound system and sharpened his craft in Kingston working alongside legendary producers like Sly & Robbie before bringing his commanding vocal delivery to the UK underground. He bridges the gap between classic foundation roots and modern bass culture.
Reality Chant is the production label of Messenjah (Gabriel Calcott) and Midnight Dubs (Paul Bimler), rooted in Ōtautahi and active since their days as founding members of Dubwize in the early 2000s. The label has worked with an international roster of reggae artists including Luciano, Cornell Campbell, Jah Mason, and Louie Culture.
Play Hard features two versions — the Roots Radics-inspired original mix, plus bass-heavy remixes from Ayaluna and Øbserve. The tunes have been road-tested on South Island sound systems including Entity, Chief Remedy, Kāwai, Roots Fire, Ninth Wave, and Wheke Sound over the past two years. From roots reggae and dub to dubstep, this release showcases the depth of the Christchurch underground music and sound system community.
